Charlton goalkeeper Dean Kiely has said he is delighted he will be honouring a fellow 'keeper when he runs out for Charlton at Alec Chamberlain's Testimonial Game on July 30.
"Alec's a fabulous 'keeper, he's easily been one of the best outside the Premiership and I know he's held in high esteem by fellow professionals all over the country," said Dean. "Why? That's easy - for his professionalism, his attitude and of course for his abilities as a player.
"To have lasted so long in professional football like he has – and still be competing seriously for a first team place at 41 - speaks volumes for the way he's conducted himself over the years.
"I was delighted for him when he came back into the team at the end of last season and did so well - not that he has anything to prove, but he'd been out the first team picture for most of the season, yet he came back as if he'd never been away and kept three clean sheets in a row. Superb!"
Dean says he will be wishing his fellow Number One every success for his testimonial year when they meet up before the game.
"It's an old cliche, but Alec really is a model professional, and its players like him that really deserve testimonials - as a reward for their service to the game in general, not just to their club, and I'm sure he will get plenty of support throughout the season.
"Everyone at Charlton will be up for the game on July 30, it's an important part of our build up to the new season," said Dean.
"But more than that, this is our way of paying tribute to a fabulous professional. On behalf of everyone at Charlton FC I wish Alec every success."
